Laser Marking Automotive VIN Labels

Each Pryor VIN Label Laser Marking Machine is tailored to a customer’s specific requirements, ensuring installation is seamless and operation fast, efficient and effective.

The VIN Label Laser Marking Machine comprises a modular, floor-standing workstation with ergonomic working height. The integrated laser controller is rack mounted within the enclosure, with operating functions easily visible and accessible at the front of the unit.

Safe and Efficient Work with Lasers

The workstation is a Class 1 light safe enclosure which fully shields the operator from harmful light radiation during the marking process. The enclosure size and layout is scalable and can be designed to meet our customers exact requirements. Likewise we can match the specification of the laser we integrate to meet our customers required marking, material and cycle time requirements.

Pryor designs the laser enclosure and feed mechanism to ensure the loading and unloading of printing materials is quick and easy for the operator to reduce downtime between label rolls. The label roll is mounted inside the enclosure, feeding the material using powered rollers, holding the substrate flat and still during the laser printing process. The label feed system and pneumatic cutting disc system are designed to be simple to use and easy to maintain. Once cut, the label ejection system deposits the laser printed label into a collection tray, ready to be applied to the vehicle. Sensors detect when the roll is empty and requires changing to prevent unwanted laser marking of the feed system bed.

The fume extraction system, located within the base of the workstation, comprises a flexible metal hose located above the marking area. This ensures direct removal of dust and debris across the entire width of the label marking area.

Manufacturing Traceability with Pryor Software

A PC is located within the base of the workstation with a touchscreen monitor mounted either within the enclosure doors or on the side of the unit. A keyboard and mouse are included in a sliding tray above the integrated laser controller. Pryor’s traceability software is supplied pre-installed within the PC, containing relevant marking layouts and all features required to ensure full product traceability. A handheld scanner is mounted on the enclosure frame for quick and easy scanning of vehicle documentation prior to each marking process. Our in house software design team can develop the software to meet specific customer requirements for automatic loading, offline or remote access/printing as well as custom integrations with global MES systems or PLC communication. 

Fibre lasers boast a high frequency range, enabling them to mark a variety of substrates in one pass. Using Pryor traceability software to create a layout, the laser machine can print vehicle information on a variety of different labels, within seconds. Operators can mark a metal VIN plate and metal brand plaque at the same time as an acrylic VIN label.

The traceability software controlling the fibre laser will automatically evaluate the data received from the customers database and load the correct marking programme (layout) and populate the variable fields.
